Pre-K-Kinder

We have a special space for 3-6 year-olds at Acton Academy—the Spark Studio!

Participation in Spark is an excellent way to lay a Pre-K/Pre-K/Kinder foundation in a nurturing environment with the highest standards of excellence.

For families planning to continue their Acton adventure beyond Pre-K and Kindergarten, Spark is a bridge between home and the Acton Academy Elementary Studio. Enrolling in Spark is a wonderful way for the whole family to get their feet wet with the systems and culture of Acton Academy!

Children in the Spark Studio:

  • Listen to and dialogue about excellent stories
  • Learn kindness and community engagement through high-quality play inside and outside
  • Begin simple goal setting, reflection, and contract making
  • Work with Montessori materials to grow their reading, writing, and math skills
  • Play games that engage their mind, body, and spirit
  • Participate in beginner Socratic discussions where they learn to articulately agree or disagree with other children

Children are ready for the Spark Studio when they are:

  • At least three years old.
  • No longer napping.
  • Going to the bathroom independently.
  • Ready for a full day of school (8:00 am - 3:00 pm).*

Children who are already five years old must also have pre-reading skills:

  • Knowledge of the main alphabet sounds
  • Able to rhyme and identify the first sound in spoken words
  • Ability to blend sounds together to form simple spoken words
  • Ability to break sounds apart from simple spoken words

*Half days are available upon request for children needing a bridge to full day.

I am just blown away with my child's growth both academically and personally. I know every child is different but broadly speaking, when I compare her to other children her age in traditional schools, she is light years ahead of them. She is such a well-rounded child and I've even seen growth in her EQ... it's just so cool to see her development and I contribute a lot of it to Acton.
